In 2009, fashion designer Sandra Harvey moved to Asheville, North Carolina, a town known for its culinary sophistication. There she was inspired to design a chef jacket for women that is both elegant and functional.
She even attended culinary school to gain a full knowledge of the working chef’s rhythm and requirements. “I wanted a design that would match the artistic flair the chefs put into their food, but at the same time keep it simple and pure with respect to the tradition of cleanliness and form,” she explained. “As a designer I am detail-obsessed with clean lines, hidden seams, and getting the right fit…The jacket is designed for an hourglass figure, so the waist is nipped in with fuller hips, with deep side pockets for a high fashion look.”
Sandra Harvey’s jackets are made from organic poplin and twill with added Lycra for comfort, and the sleeves are cut slender with a tall mock French cuff that you can pull up rather than roll. Though most of her products are designed for women (the company’s tagline is ‘Wear Something the Boys Can’t’), Harvey does carry a limited selection for men.
