In Memoriam: A Tribute to Kerry Vincent, ‘The Queen of Cakes’

Kerry Vincent, celebrated cake designer, co-founder of the annual Oklahoma Sugar Art Show and popular Food Network host, died on January 2, 2021 from an undisclosed illness. Vincent dedicated her career to the art of cake design and decoration, traveling the world teaching others the techniques she had developed and honed over the years, including the Vincent Marquetry, a technique that allows you to form decorative patterns inlaid in fondant.

Born in Wyalkatchem, Western Australia in 1945, Vincent is best known for being a judge on Food Network Challenge shows between 2006 and 2012. She went on to host Save My Bakery, where she helped struggling bakeries, and a special focused on contestants of the Grand National Wedding Cake competition. Other credits include The Great Australian Bake Off, Holiday Gingerbread Showdown and Last Cake Standing.

Vincent is the author of Romantic Wedding Cakes (Merehurst Ltd., 2001). She was inducted into the International Cake Exploration Societé (ICES) Sugarcraft Hall of Fame in 2004, as well as Dessert Professional magazine’s Hall of Fame in 2010. Kerry Vincent was a bright light in the world of cake decorating, and she will be greatly missed by her legions of fans as well as her many admiring professional colleagues.
